In 2018, South Africa had the honour of hosting the tenth BRICS Summit, which saw the participation of the presidents of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Each participating country developed initiatives to engage major businesses outside the summit, with the African Storyteller coordinating Russia’s business program.
We organized an investment dialogue aimed at identifying investment opportunities between South Africa and Russia. This event took place at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Rosebank and attracted over three hundred business and political leaders. Notable attendees included the current Deputy President of South Africa, H.E. Paul Mashatile, who was then serving as the ANC Treasurer General, alongside CEOs from major companies in both countries.
The event, broadcast live on CNBC Africa, featured successful case studies of South African and Russian investments, and clarified misconceptions about Russia, especially after the failed nuclear deal with South Africa. Additionally, the event emphasized the historical connections between South Africa and Russia.
